St. Mark

Feast of St. Mark the Evangelist - The Catholic Sun

St. Mark, known as the Evangelist, is one of the four Gospel writers. His Gospel is the earliest written and gives us a vivid picture of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. Tradition tells us that St. Mark was a follower of St. Peter and wrote down Peter’s preaching in his Gospel. Afterward, he became a missionary and brought the Christian faith to new lands, eventually founding the Church in Alexandria, Egypt, where he served as the first bishop. His symbol is the winged lion, a sign of strength, courage, and kingship. St. Mark shows us how important it is to speak boldly about our faith and to share Jesus with others, even when it is difficult. At our school, he inspires us to be courageous in our learning, our friendships, and our faith.

St. Mary Zhu Wu

Today is the feast of Sts. Leo Ignatius Mangin, Mary Zhu Wu and companions. St. Leo Mangin was a French Jesuit missionary in China who was killed during the Boxer Rebellion. Mary

St. Mary Zhu Wu was a Chinese Catholic laywoman born around 1850. She lived with her husband and family in Zhujiahe village and was known for her generosity, prayerfulness, and care for those in need. In 1900, during the Boxer Rebellion, Christians were persecuted for their faith. When the village church came under attack, Mary showed extraordinary bravery by standing in front of the altar to defend her priest and fellow believers. She was shot and killed, and soon after the church was set on fire, where many others died as martyrs. Mary was canonised in 2000 by Pope St. John Paul II as one of the Martyrs of China. Her life reminds us to be faithful to God in every circumstance, to stand up for what is right, and to protect those who are vulnerable. At school, she inspires us to remain faithful in prayer and strong in our Catholic identity.

St. Francis of Assisi

St. Francis of Assisi was born in Italy in 1181 into a wealthy family, but he discovered that true joy came not from riches but from following Christ in humility and love. He gave up his possessions and began to live simply, caring for the poor, the sick, and all of God’s creation. Francis founded the Franciscan Order, which spread quickly across Europe and beyond, inspiring people to live lives of service and peace. He is famous for preaching to both people and animals, seeing all of creation as brothers and sisters under God. Late in his life, Francis received the stigmata—the wounds of Christ—showing how closely he was united with Jesus in love. At our school, he inspires us to serve one another, to respect God’s world, and to find joy in simplicity and kindness.

St. Carlo Acutis

Carlo Acutis - Wikipedia

St. Carlo Acutis, born in 1991, is a modern saint who lived his faith with joy and simplicity. He loved playing football, video games, and spending time with friends, but he always made time for daily Mass, Eucharistic adoration, and praying the Rosary. Carlo used his computer skills to design a website that catalogued Eucharistic miracles from around the world, wanting everyone to know the reality of Jesus’ presence in the Eucharist. He once said, “The Eucharist is my highway to heaven.” At the age of 15, Carlo died of leukemia, offering up his suffering to God. In 2020 he was beatified, and in 2025 he was canonised, becoming the first millennial saint. Carlo shows us that holiness is possible for young people today, and he encourages us to use our talents—even technology—for God’s glory. At our school, he reminds us that friendship with Jesus can guide every part of our lives.
